Prof. Luis F. Sfeir-Younis is a lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Michigan. His primary areas of research and teaching are The Body, Sexuality, and Social Suffering.

Luis was born in Chile of parents of Middle Eastern ancestry, and migrated to America in the 1970s. He is married to Pilar, from Colombia, and is the father of Alejandra, Gabby, and Luis, and a grandfather of four children.

Prof. Luis has a bachelor degree in Economics, two Master degrees, and a Doctorate in Sociology from the University of Michigan.

Luis is known as a transformative, diverse, and charismatic teacher. He often challenges his students with new perspectives, provides innovative ways of integrating course materials with daily life, and encourages students to create a more just, peaceful, and inclusive world by becoming both agents of social change and by developing inner wisdom, compassion, and new visions of reality.
